Budj Bim trip 2025
Interested in learning about what our Budj Bim Trip has to offer? Hear about what Ella had to say about our 2025 trip bellow!
On the 14th of November we set off from Melbourne to head west towards Budj Bim. With three of us in the Impreza, loaded to the roof with camping gear and snacks, it was not a quick trip, but it was a fun one with lots of gossip and good music. Arriving at camp around 2pm we had plenty of time to pick a great tent spot and set up our camp chair for some socialising. We shared a lovely roast chicken and pasta salad tea with everyone once we had set up camp and got ready to enjoy the few days of educational outdoor time with friends, new and old".
On Saturday, I woke up early and enjoyed exploring one of the short walks nearby the campsite, which took me to a lookout from which I could see out over the aptly named Lake Suprise. The landscape was so different to what I'd seen before, with the lake being a surprisingly vast expanse of water which gave you the feeling of being very, very small.
Around 9am, we all hopped back in the cars and drove down to the Tae Rak visitor centre to meet our guide for the day, Rueben. The tour began with a drive to the first spot which, for me meant back in the car with friends to make up rhymes about cows and mounds, but for most of our group included a commentary on the surrounding landscape narrated onboard a minibus.
After a few short walks and some fantastic learning delivered with humour by Rueben, we headed back to the Tae Rak centre for a lunch showcasing local produce and of course, the star of the show, smoked eel! Celebrating the food and culture we had just learned so much about was a truly special way to spend a sunny November day.
After lunch we had some more local sights to learn about, and then back to camp for a BBQ and some Koala watching! Sunday saw us packing up in the rain and setting off for a longer walk around the campgrounds including checking out a cave. After crawling around in the damp and dark, we set off back home, with another stop at the bakery where I personally enjoyed a restorative sausage roll and iced coffee combo.

National archaeology week tardis dig
We participated in the 2026 Australian National Archaeology Week by partnering with La Trobe University and EXTENT Archaeology, to hold an event for our members to learn from industry leading experts on helpful archaeological skills and practices.
The first part of the day took place in the university’s TARDIS, where our members and EXTENT Archaeology staff were able to get their hands dirty and excavate fabricated archaeological sites with trowles, coal shovels and sieves. This was followed by a presentation from the team from EXTENT Archaeology, who duscussed many of their past archaeological projects and tips for gaining employment within the archaeological sector in Victoria.
At the beggining of 2026, we collaborated with the La Trobe Historical Society to create the HisSoc X ArcSoc Trivia Night!
A night loaded with pizza for dinner, innergroup arguing over answers and of course prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd. The night was a massive success and we look forward to hosting many more trivia nights for the future
